At the end of my last post<\/a>, I referred to what modern science and psychology are selling. For those interested in a more poetic expression, this excerpt\u00a0begins on page 123 of\u00a0<\/em>A Mid-Life Perspective: Conversations With The Unconscious<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Divided thinking leads at last to conflicting goals:
\nTo the two-way mirrors in the depth of all men\u2019s souls;
\nReflecting dual minds in which the opposites prevail
\nYet only one can be observed through the conscious veil.
\nEven in the lofty labs of science this exists
\nIts subjective basis proven by the physicists:
\nThe uncertain observations Heisenberg asserted
\nWere the limitations of their minds their thought perverted;
\nThough even these do not reflect the dark uncertain forms
\nImposed by thought’s restriction to objective norms.
\nThe conditions of the soul determine what men seek
\nThe probable statistics are a modern double-speak.
\nWhat natural reality makes any sense at all
\nWithout a concept of the purposes inherent in it?
\nLife would never have arisen on this earthly ball
\nWithout the spirit everywhere apparent in it.
\nThe faithful picture of the world such concepts have defined
\nStill are psychic products with conditions of their own;
\nAnd symbols weave their purpose through the conscious mind
\nIn the secret depth to which itself remains unknown.
\nThe uncertain relativity of modern science —
\nThe deepest of realities the mind has yet discerned —
\nFrom the smallest particle to planetary giants
\nReflects as well its two-way mirror when the glass is turned.
\nSuch ideas are not conceived as psychic intuition
\nThough perceived to be the ground reality requires.
\nEven physics can’t escape the basis of cognition
\nRevealing inner aspects of the knowledge it acquires.
\nThrough these secrets half-described in man’s imagination
\nSpirit, too, participates in matter’s dark foundation. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Nature’s secrets are elusive as her properties require —
\nMost of all within the matter of the soul’s desire.
\nThe truths in her images the scientists have won
\nLead below the world of things inside a deeper one.
\nFaust said long ago, “Two souls are dwelling in my breast” —
\nNow a proven fact the oldest atom will attest.
\nAt the same time as Einstein a Swiss psychologist
\nInformed objective science of the very thing it missed:
\nThe subjective factor \u2013 provable empirically —
\nWas a psychic analogue for space-time relativity<\/a>.
\nThis factor hides a deeper law than instruments reveal
\nFor the law of man’s being is a factor he must feel\u2026
\nAlas two psychic truths are dwelling in his head
\nBased on opposition like the physicists said. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 “Each is feign to leave its brother,” just as Faust opined;
\nAnd one denied the other for the concepts it divined. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The older one — the matrix men\u2019s awareness can’t concede —
\nIs the very god-likeness their consciousness decreed
\nAs an image of themselves and the wonders they begat
\nPerverting their own reason as a price for that.
\nA deeper opposition yet resides within
\nThe partial values in the minds of thinking men:
\nLike salesmen they construct a future shopping mall
\nAt the same time hoarding weapons to destroy it all…
\nMen are only objects in these dark imaginings;
\nThemselves reduced to ciphers in a world of Things<\/a>.
\nWhat man if he had ever drunk from spirit’s well
\nCould quench his thirst with the technologic brew they sell?
\nAre the scientific prophets merely profiteers?
\nWhat human soul has been enhanced by their inventions?
\nStrange desires cloud the lens through which this science peers:
\nThe subject<\/em> of the object<\/a> now confuses its intentions;
\nThough men are left to struggle with the same old human fears
\nAs once claimed Eve’s and Adam’s and the snake’s attentions.
\nNo problem is beyond this objective human quest
\nExcept the small subjective one in a man’s own breast;
\nYet still all forms of superstition will suffice
\nTo convince him of his distance from his own inner vice.
\nThis same collective border Christianity constructed
\nRepels a man from seeking what his nature has to say. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Though now it’s on the other side of heaven life’s conducted
\nIt has still the same objective to explain the world away \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And only understand enough to serve the greed created
\nBy the hallowed histories of pious people long since gone;
\nDriven still by inner forces Nature arbitrated
\nThat science and religion both have turned their backs upon…
\nFor this man to free his mind he must consider things
\nQuite the opposite the paradigm instilled in him;
\nFor the intellect inflames a man with waxen wings
\nSoaring far beyond the nature being willed in him.
\nThis will is not his own and not obsessed with other men
\nBut strives below the known to seek a world within;
\nFor the re-creation of an older mystery
\nAnd he is only driven there by hard necessity.
\nHe views his thinking through the glass of self-importance;
\nThe wonders he beholds are mystical possessions.
\nThey bewitch and stupefy in mythical accordance
\nWith the ancient laws established by a man’s obsessions.
\nA man must have a counterweight to these Platonic spheres
\nLike giant shadows crouched behind his small and modest fears.
\nHe loves these fears too in his own clandestine way:
\nSuch is the bargain struck by men who cannot pray.
\nHe barters spirit-life for dark and fleeting pleasures
\nTo flatter only Image’s obsessive measures. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 But a man who cannot pray must worship nonetheless
\nThe gods of his disorders whom his fantasies confess.
\nSuch are the idols of a space-age mythology
\nUntil recently the ones the heavens once concealed;
\nNow the orphans of a modern-day psychology
\nYet not much less divine and not much more revealed.
\nFor gods have ever issued from this psychic netherland
\nIn any form interpreted to make men understand
\nThat a greater spirit hides within the human mind
\nThan by science or the intellect will ever be defined.
\nBut the prophets of today are focused on the brain
\nAble only to connect with what they touch and see.
\nNo man yet has seen a god in the physical domain \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Except the demons lurking in the body’s chemistry.
\nThe gods are demons now to this enlightened man
\nWhose only world consists of what his thought can understand.
\nThe psychic history on which his life is based
\nBy the shining light of Consciousness is now erased.
\nWhat was once a sacred sphere by which this man was graced
\nHas been reduced to symptoms and by chemicals replaced.
\nWhat once were ancient deities have now become disease —
\nTheir double-nature no objective science can appease.
\nHow could such a troubled culture now have come about
\nBut that its egotism turned its thinking inside-out?
\nDenied the things its own spirit thundered long ago
\nFor self-deceptive mysteries its science couldn’t know.
\nA bi-polar syndrome underlies the Western mind
\nFor these neglected opposites are moving to the fore;
\nJust as they comprise the nature science has defined
\nSo also do they form the nature scientists ignore.
\nThey force a man inside himself though willed or not;
\nThey urge him to consider things his modern mind forgot.
\nThey sometimes even make him pray though on a thinking level
